Audition Tips

It’s okay to be nervous for your first audition, but we’re here to help! Preparation is everything, so here’s a few tips to help you get ready to shine!

Auditions on BIGO Live are done through a video submission.

Previously, auditions had to be done live via a 30-minute first stream where BIGO admins would watch each new host applicant and make a decision based on the audition stream. Now, auditions are much faster and more streamlined through the use of video auditions. You will receive an audition invite in your BIGO message inbox from Guitar Dude (that’s Kadin, our agency leader), and when you open it you will have to provide your name, BIGO ID number, and a short written description of what kind of content you specialize in. Then you’ll need to record and upload an audition video, which needs to be between 30 and 60 seconds long.

In the video you need to state the following information:

-Your name
-Your BIGO ID
-The current date and time of when you are recording the video
-The name of the agency you’re auditioning for (which is Own Your Destiny Agency)

Then for the rest of the video, you can introduce yourself, describe the kind of content you’ll be streaming on BIGO, and talk about why you would be a good host on BIGO Live.

If you’d prefer to do a live audition, that’s still an option! The following Do’s and Don’ts are mostly applicable to live auditions, but many of them still apply for video auditions as well, so please read through them regardless of which audition method you want to use!

Do’s and Don’ts For Your BIGO Audition!

DO:

  • Make sure your account is less than 15 days old. This is a requirement – if your account isn’t new, you’re going to need to delete your old account and make a new one. *If you have been a contracted host previously, you cannot audition with us (or any other agency) unless you have been released from your former agency.
  • Go live 5-10 minutes early. This gives you time to make sure everything is working properly and you are feeling settled by the time the admins arrive to watch you. Going live even 2-3 minutes after your audition start time is not acceptable, and you will be marked as a no-show and need to schedule the audition again, which has penalties for both you and us, so we don’t want that to happen!
  • Make sure your phone is charged. Streaming apps are demanding and use up a lot of battery, so make sure your phone is fully charged and/or plug it in before you go live.
  • Find a stable surface to leave your phone during the audition (or use a tripod). Once you go live, a steady camera is very important.
  • Tell your friends & fans! Let people know about your audition so they can be there to support you! Lots of streamers even make a little promo image to post up on their “wall” (similar to the Facebook wall).
  • Make sure your internet is stable. Streaming is very bandwidth intensive. Do not attempt to do your audition from a moving vehicle, or anywhere you aren’t positive has a strong signal.
  • Set your phone to “Do Not Disturb” mode. Phone calls will interrupt and potentially end your broadcast while you are auditioning!
  • Plan to be online for at least 35-45 minutes for your audition. Auditions must last for a minimum of 30 minutes after the scheduled start time. This means that if your audition is scheduled for 2:00pm, you must stay live until 2:30pm, even if you went live at 1:45pm. Plus, if you’re accepted, your official time will start with this broadcast, so feel free to stay on for longer to take advantage of all the eyes on you, and work towards your monthly hours!
  • Talk about yourself, what you do, and what you plan to do on your broadcasts. This is your introduction to the community, so let your viewers know what is ahead!
  • Personally greet & welcome every new viewer that comes into your livestream. Admins are watching the way you interact with viewers, and this shows them that you’re friendly and personable!
  • Try to respond to every chat message, especially if people are giving you compliments or asking you questions to get to know you. Always thank anyone who sends you gifts! The admins are judging how you interact with your audience.
  • Ignore any trolls. Unfortunately, trolls live everywhere on the internet, and some may find their way to your broadcast. The best way to deal with this is to set an admin in your room during your audition. Someone from Own Your Destiny will be present at your audition, so make one of us an admin to help you keep the vibe positive!
  • Thank your viewers! Keep a close eye out for gifts and enthusiastically thank you anyone who sends you a gift. Thank anyone who follows you or shares your broadcast.
  • Be friendly and keep things positive and upbeat. Nobody likes to watch someone sitting around looking miserable – put on a smile and give people a reason to want to spend time with you!
  • Let us know ASAP if you need to cancel or won’t be able to make it to the audition for any reason. We can easily reschedule you if you give us some advance notice. We will check in with you within 24 hours of your audition, and if we don’t hear from you within 1 hour of your start time, we will cancel and reschedule the audition to avoid being penalized for a no-show.

DON’T:

  • Be late. Admins are very prompt and will fail you immediately if you’re not online at your scheduled audition time.
  • Dress inappropriately. For women, this means you must dress conservatively during your audition. Don’t wear tight or sheer clothing or show your cleavage – remember this is an all-ages app.  We recommend wearing a t-shirt, buttoned up blouse, or sweater. You must be wearing a bra under your shirt. Men must be wearing a shirt. For any gender, if your nipple bumps show through the shirt, you could be banned from the app!
  • Stream from a car, or anywhere besides your home. When you do your audition, it is extremely important that you do it from a location with a strong internet connection. Do not attempt to do your audition while you’re out running errands; admins want to see you interacting, not distracted and paying attention to other things. Streaming from a moving vehicle can also potentially get you banned in general.
  • Leave the broadcast. Stay on-screen the entire time. Make sure you have everything you need, like water, before you begin your audition.
  • Have anyone else on camera during the audition. This is your audition, not anyone else’s! The point of the audition is for the admins to see how you act on camera and interact with viewers, so don’t distract yourself by having others on camera. This includes split-screen chats from within the app – if you get any “line”, “match”, or “PK” requests from people during your audition, you MUST reject them, as it’s against the rules to have anyone else on the live during your audition.
  • Have a messy background. Try to make your backdrop interesting and appealing, or at the very least, neat and tidy.
  • Pick your phone up and move it excessively during the audition. If you have a phone tripod, that’s ideal, but if not, set it up somewhere stable – don’t just hold it in your hand the whole time, as a shaky screen is disorienting, not enjoyable to watch, and could cause you to fail the audition.
  • Dual-stream. Streaming on other apps or sites while live is against the app’s rules, and admins will be watching closely during your audition. If you regularly stream on other places, don’t do it, or talk about it, during your audition.
  • Play with the buttons. BIGO’s interface has a lot going on, and we’ve seen auditions where people start pressing buttons and then all of a sudden they’re accidentally in a split-screen chat with another person, which is not allowed during auditions. Put your phone down and just leave it until the audition is over – you can start exploring after you’ve passed! The only time you should touch anything on the screen during your audition is if you need to set an admin or kick someone from your stream.
  • Do anything that will take up too much of your attention. If you’re a performer or artist of some kind, it’s great to talk about your art and give some short demonstrations, but if what you do demands a lot of your attention, save it for after you pass your audition. Interacting with your viewers is the most important part of your audition and it can be hard to pay attention and respond to the chat while performing.

MOST IMPORTANTLY – FOLLOW ALL THE RULES & REGULATIONS:

  • Nothing even slightly resembling sexual content. Dress conservatively (no cleavage/short-shorts) and refrain from any sexual/provocative conversation or behavior. This also includes talking about adult sites. If you stream on webcam sites or have OnlyFans or a premium Snapchat, you can’t advertise them on BIGO.
  • No vulgar language. Swearing is not policed on the app, but for your audition, try to avoid it just to be safe. Keep your language clean and absolutely avoid anything that could be construed as discrimination or hate speech.
  • No violence, blood (real or fake), or weapons (real or props). If you are a cosplayer, for example, avoid any prop weapons. If you have decorative weapons hanging on your wall, keep them off-camera. This also includes kitchen knives.
  • No promoting competing apps or sites. You are free to promote your social media, such as Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook, but if you stream on apps like LiveMe, Uplive, Tagged, TikTok, or Twitch, don’t talk about it while live – you can be banned permanently for this! If you really want to mention them, use abbreviations – but it’s best to just get in the habit of NOT mentioning them.

Please feel free to read the official Audition Standards and Code of Conduct as well!
